Hi, the system you are talking about is in the book 'Tools for Teaching' by Fred Jones. I am planning on trying it this year because I like putting the responsibilty back on the students. I did use a stop watch. It worked
like a charm. When the students did not follow the procedure for coming in to class, getting in line, excessive talking, I would just start the stop watch. What ever time they racked up by Friday was owed during their recess. This was used as a whole class responsibility. The most they ever owed was 5mins but, they usually owed about 2 mins. That means very little wasted time during
class time. As soon as I held up the stop watch they would tell each other to be quiet and they would just do exactly what they were suppose to be doing.
