Maybe this dates me, but I really love to start the year off with Henry Huggins by Beverly Cleary. The boys love to hear a book about a boy as a main character. Then I read Beezus and Ramona- most 4th graders know a pesty younger child like poor old Ramona- and her outlandish behavior is so much fun! Later in the year, as we talk about authors, we always bring up one of "our" favorites- Beverly Cleary!Read aloud time is just about my favorite time in my school day! Love those books!
