two places you might try is a book publishing company if there is one near you. they have promo copies for libraries and others to use then they often toss them out or give them to someone

second is yes yard sales...great place
often if you mention to the seller you are a teacher after purchasing what you want they often donate the rest to you or ask you to come back at end of day and what's left is yours!
