Parents and Teachers By Carson

unfortunately there are too many parents out there that shouldn't be parents. So what happens to their children? It becomes a teachers job to guide these children and set standards and expectations that they don't have| at home. I teach in an urban area where many of my kids' parents are not much older than they are. The parents are not prepared to be parents because they are still children themselves. It comes with the job that sometimes you have to reach a little further and work a little harder with some kids. Expecting that more parent teacher conferences are going to improve the situation is insane | | because these are the parents that usually don't show up for conferences. I don't think it's fair to put all the blame on teachers, but we have to be more proactive in the lives of the kids who need us the most. My kids come in with homework done because they know that I expect it to be done and I don't accept those excuses.
