Turtle Fun
By Krissy

Clip to ScrapBook
*Travelling Turtle: Get a small stuffed turtle to "travel" by mail to other schools and places in the U.S. Your students can name him and track where he visits. Send him with a travel journal and he can help your class
learn about geography, culture, and the world.

*Behavior: Make small paper turtles with magnets on the back and put them all in a line on the board. Make a "finish line" which is the goal for behavior. For each infraction, students move their turtle one space back from the finish line. Put up a sign that says "We're all winners with good choices/behavior!"

*Class rewards: Get

a large coffee can or box and decorate it with turtle stickers or green paper. Call them "Turtle Trinkets" or "Turtle Treasures" for prizes.

*Write the Turtle Wax company a very nice letter about how you are decorating your room with turtles and was wondering if they have any posters or stickers you could have. They just might send some things to you.

*Make a huge turtle and give every student one piece of his shell. Let them color and decorate it with their names and then put them all together for a decorative, colorful classroom turtle.

*Hall Pass: Get a rubber turtle from the dollar store to use as your hall pass. Write your name and room number on it with a permanent marker.

*Rubber stamp: Get a turtle stamp to use for good work, homework, etc.

*Good Work Board: Put up a large net and a brown paper background. Glue some eggs around with baby sea turtle crawling out. "Good Work is Hatching!" and put several clothespins around the net. You can clip good work right to the net.

*Classroom Jobs: Put up a grassy background and put the jobs on flowers, trees, rocks, etc. Move each students turtle around with clothespins for a quick job transfer. "Look who's coming out of their shell to help out!" "

*Classroom Newsletter: Call it the "Turtle Times"

*Bulletin Boards: Go to a craft store or fabric store and see if you can find some turtle related fabric for a bulletin board background.

*Nametags: Get some cute turtle clipart and put the students names on them, laminate and attach to their desks with tape.

*Reading corner: Print out a large picture of a snapping turtle and cut out some pretend books. Cut the corners off the books like they have been bitten "Sink your teeth into a good book!" or "Bite into a good book!" Put trees and leaves (paper ones) on the walls to make it feel like a turtle habitat.

*Turtle light: Put one of those lights on your desk where the shell of the turtle lights up. Turn it on during times when the class is supposed to be working silently, such as silent reading. Use it as a reminder signal for those work periods.

*Get a little bell and call it the "Shell Bell" Ring it as a quiet signal or to signify some other event.

*Student of the Week: "Top Turtle" Turtle pencils for the student of the week.
