SpongeBob By Deb S.

I had a beach/ocean theme. I had a palm tree, beach chairs, fishnet, buckets of books, shells, beachball, innertube, and shells in my reading center. I put up some fish on the window above the center and hung fishnet over a sign that read "Readers Beach". I made a big Spongebob and stuck him on the wall. I drew a SpongeBob for the hall(he's really easy to draw) and had each student's name on a sea creature in the hall. I cut out letters that read: "I'M READY...for 2nd Grade!" (SpongeBob says I'm ready a lot as you probably know) I also had some little SpongeBob things around the room, Talking S.Bob | | on my desk, S.Bob notepaper and activity books. When I'd want the class to make a quick transition, I'd say "Be there, or be Squarepants." Kinda corny, but the kids just start saying it with me after awhile. We even had a party for some kind of reward where the kids watched a SpongeBob episode while eating sponge cake. It was a lot of fun for me being that I'm a huge SpongeBob fan. I think it would be fun to bring Patrick and Squidward into the theme too. Good luck to you, I'm sure your class will love it. My own kids are teenagers and love SpongeBob. He's really great for any age group.
