Wringer is one of my favorite read alouds. Debi is right -- it is disturbing, but so compelling. Hatchet is one of my favorite adventures. Have you read Far North by Will Hobbs? It is very similar to Hatchet, but includes the extra twist of companionship and learning about other ways. A boy is off to visit his father in the oil fields of the Yukon when the plane he, a Native American Indian boy and his old uncle is lost in a dare devil stunt by the pilot. I think you would like it if you like Hatchet. Don't you love to talk books?
