Kim, I'm sure you have heard this before: be patient. It is easy to say and definitely not do. I have walked in your shoes and know what it is like to put your heart and soul into every assignment you get and then get| passed over for a permanent position. I did two years as an interim and the following year, I applied for a teaching position within that building. I was pregnant (now bear in mind, I had already been pregnant during one of the other interims and that didn't bother anyone) and due in early July. The job was between another interim sub (she had done a six month position) and me. She got the |
| job. It was never stated, but I cannot help but feel my pregnancy was a factor in determining who got the position. I was discouraged, disheartened, and seriously thought about not returning to that school. My colleagues in the building encouraged me to come back and sub for another year--prove I could handle the job even with a baby. I wasn't happy, but I did do it. In the long run, it paid off. That was twelve years ago, and shortly after that, I was hired permanently. I have been teaching in the same building with these wonderful colleagues for ten years. So, hang in there. If the job is meant to be, it will come your way, if not, you have to believe and convince yourself that something better is waiting in the wings, and in due time, the ideal position will open for you (again, easy to say, not easy to agree with). Take care of yourself and your baby. Enjoy this precious time in your life, and if necessary, return as an interim and prove them wrong. Your dedication and perseverance will lead you down the right path. I do, also, think your idea of bringing in the sub to meet your principal is a feasible option. It shows just how determined you are to work this out. I wish you the best of luck. Any student would be blessed to have a teacher with your dedication, and your child will definitely be blessed to have you for a mother--you seem to be very caring and concerned about all those around you. Keep us posted!
