getting started
By J/IA

Clip to ScrapBook
It is amazing how summer vacation flies by!! In just a couple of weeks I'll be getting my room ready--WOW!
I will plan on using the first 20 days as well. I did that last year and it worked well. I just look forward to
giving this a go again, but having been through it once before, making improvements from the first time around. I feel like I've done a better job this time in kind of "indexing" important pages so that I can refer to them more easily this year. I also plan to look at my year as a whole and kind of benchmark where I hope to be throughout the year, or what kinds of work I'll be focusing
on during the different months. I am also eager to organize my classroom. That is typical me for this time of year--this year I'm going to be SO organized!
Another issue for me is integrating my special needs kids. There are 4 in my class with reading and writing disabilities and the resource teacher is someone who has done her job forever ( I was new to this district last year) and holds to the old way of doing things--in other words pull out. I'm taking an integration class next week and I'm hoping to get some guidance there. Maybe this is the topic for another post!
I'm pretty much going to go for it with implementig all aspects of this model. It's a lot of work, but I found last year trying it for the first time I was doing some of my best teaching ever and the kids were more self-motivated than I've ever seen.
I am really enjoying this discussion, Everyone!
PS I just ordered Look and Learn too!
