homework
By Nadine

Clip to ScrapBook
Well, I can totally relate to you. Last year was my first year teaching 3rd grade, so I had many questions.
With regards to HW... I do give HW everyday, i.e., Spelling, Math, Reading, and Content. At the beginning of
the week I give them a homework log that I made up on MS Word. (If you would like to see my HW log, I can email you a copy) Every morning they copy their homework as part of morning work/ journal time. While they are busy, I call my team captains to bring me their homework folders. ( I gave them HW folders the first day of school)I check off the homework they did and circle the ones that
they missed, and I make sure that their parents signed it. If they did not do a HW assignment, I make them do it right then and there, but do not count it. I keep track of HW daily on an incentive chart. At the end of the week, I give each student that had 100% homework a "NO Homework" coupon. If a student misses more than 3 days HW, I call home. If problem continues, they stay in from recess. This takes about 15 minutes tops, 8:30-8:45. You just have to get the hang of it.

Hope this helps!
