I have often thought of my decision to take on a long-term sub position less than a month after student teaching. I jumped at the opportunity to have the experience and I am still very grateful for the learning experience and the relationships I developed with several staff, students, and parents. However, the district I was in had many retirees and openings and I was not hired. I did a great job and really did think that I had at least one poisition in the bag, but I was wrong. I was too much of a good thing as a sub. Also, since I only focused on the one school district I slit my own throat when it came to other schools. I turned down sub job after sub job because of my commitment to the one school district and no other school distrcit has even seen my face. I never got (or took) the opportunity to show any other school what I can do. Now I have to consider it a lesson learned. I am making sure any school I am interested in hears my name, knows my face, and sees what I can do. And I will never put all my eggs in one basket again!
