Hi... we have been mandated in Florida to have all children use the computerized comprehension version of Scholastic beginning in "K", if you can believe that one. However, my 2nd graders have mixed feelings. They are excited about reading these books and getting on the computer to take the tests and win points. The sad part is that there are those children who are so low that no matter which reading range they use in their book choices (they are assigned these ranges by administration), they just can't seem to pass 1 or 2 tests the entire year. Therefore, they lose interest and really don't want to go on the computer. One thing I've done toward the end of the year even though it was bending the rules a bit was to help them read the test questions with the use of a peer helper.. the helper could not tell them the right answer to choose, but at least it built up some low suffering self-esteem and that to me is the greater success of reading.
    Good luck.
