I teach Year 1 on the Gold Coast. It's wonderful up here, but HEAPS less pay. I was a casual NSW teacher and the Dept wouldn't give me a permanent posie! (My areas were too popular). I didn't go out west, I moved north! Now I'm permanent. I was offered a job in semi-west Sydney recently. I rejected it. I wish I could have got permanency in the coastal place I moved from. (A dream)! All the teachers were over 38yrs! (and that was a young staff compared to other schools. As a casual teacher for so long, I'm sure I've seen most things. I know Sydney VERY well. I have family and friends there too. But I've only taught in coastal NSW (for 8 yrs before heading over the border). Cabramatta. Oh boy. I've taught in some tough schools, but you must be earning your dollars. You must be a young teacher are you? How long have you been out? Are you counting on your transfer points?
