dismissal time By vl

I created "Fun Centers" for the end of the day. These consist of toys which students may play with in specified areas. I allow 2 children per center for most centers, more for some that can accomodate more. I purchased several plastic shoe boxes and some very inexpensive toys which I put into individual boxes. Most of the time it works out well. I make my expectations about noise level very clear each day and dismiss those students to fun centers by table or individually. Students are responsible to clean up before they leave. If we have an exceptionally rough afternoon with little cooperation, |
| there are no fun centers that day, students stay at their desks and read, do homework or draw. I haven't had to do that very often, they get the message very quickly and really want their fun centers back. It tends to help the day end on a up on a lighter note.
