Summer of Monkies

My 5th graders read Where The Red Fern Grows in literature groups and I read Summer of the Monkies (also by Wilson Rawls)aloud to them. My students were so EAGER to listen to me read that they were mad if Quit reading before I read the "good" part to them! I think 5th graders are more mature than most give them credit for! Both books are great--go for it!
