reading challenges
By Linda

Clip to ScrapBook
I do a series of short (3-4 weeks) reading challenges (linked with a classroom theme and often a specific genre of fiction or non-fiction). Reading logs must be signed by parents and we record the minutes on a classroom chart daily. I give a basic number of minutes that each child should read and give an award for all who reach that level and then other awards for kids who exceed that level.
It's a short term activity that focuses students and parents on home-reading and my kids enjoy them.
