Teaching other stuff too

In response to not being able to teach anything else...I'm not sure what the four block reading plan is but what about integrating your curriculum? You can teach social studies and science and reading all together. That
way you are getting the other stuff in too. I would try to do the two hour vocabulary tape and WHEN it doesn't work (because we all know it won't) have the vice principal come in to observe for that two hours or even the last part of those two hours when they are pretty much losing it from boredom. Then suggest some other really great vocabulary lessons. Gail Tompkins' book called Literacy

for the 21st Century is excellent for very fun innovative ideas for a balance approach to literacy. It has everything. Words Their Way is also a good one.
