I have been teaching and living in IL for 27 years. Yes you need to be certified to teach in a resource room. You can teach LD/BD with only one certificate but you can only teach those disabilities. You must possess one. I believe they have one or 2 year what they call provisional certificates that give you one or 2 years to try to get certified. You must show that you are making an attempt. Our district helps someone get it. Visit your local regional superintendents office they can help and have all the paperwork. Also in IL you must get recertified every 5 years. Hope this helps. You can email me maybe you are in my are and I can help.
