You will love 2nd grade! You definately need a rug for morning calendar time. You might also want to use it for a reading center. You'll want to plan some literacy activities or centers for your students while you teach guided reading groups. Two books that are very helpful to get you started are Guided Reading by Fountas and Pinnell and What are the Other Kids Doing?...while you teach small groups (that book is put out by Creative Teaching Press)Best of luck to you!
