alphabet

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi,
I teach Year One (kids 5, turning 6) in Australia and I use PART of the program called 'Jolly Phonics'. It's from the UK and it deals with the alphabet teachings out of order. For example, I follow an order in Term
1 at the start of the year (Jan-Feb) teaching b in week one, s in week 2, a, t, i, p, n, etc. I teach one sound a week and the kids love guessing on a Monday morning which letter it'll be. I think the program is really good and it teaches an action that the children do to remember the sound. Eg. to remember b, they act like they are batting a ball like in cricket (a legendary Aussie
sport) or for you guys, baseball. The kids on a Monday learn the action, how to form the letter and help brainstorm words that begin with the letter. Currently I am up to teaching k this week coming and it's Term 3 Week 3. I've only got 3 letters left to teach. I know it sounds like a long process, but I think with my method, the kids end up learning the letter really well and they RETAIN the knowledge for the rest of the year.
Is this the program you were looking for? I hope this helps you.
