Holiday Celebs
By Suzie

Clip to ScrapBook
About Halloween. You know in Australia we don't celebrate it at all! We don't really know what it's all about anyway but everyone gets on with school. Valentines Day also falls by the wayside, but staff wear badges of
a heart. I know of a Catholic school here where teachers are told by the Principal NOT to teach a Halloween unit or anything because of the Catholic system... parents could easily object. What happens there at Catholic/ Religious schools? Is there an issue?
Re: birthdays, most parents will bring in a cake for their child if it's his/her birthday and you have it in the classroom. Once
a week, at school assembly 'birthday children' stand up, come out the front and we sing to them.. big clap and that's it. I'm still glad holies aren't a big deal here, you can teach it/ touch on it in your classroom if you want.
