Traveling Gingerbread Boy
By Laina

Clip to ScrapBook
I did a unit about the gingerbread boy last winter. I had the children color a picture of a gingerbread boy/girl and cut it out. Then we wrote a letter about our gingerbread boy/girl. We talked about how he was a good
freind and was looking to travel as far away as possible and learn about the world. I copied the letter as well as one that I wrote asking the recipient to take the gingerbread person with them as they go about their day and also to a place that makes their city special. I asked them to take pictures and write a short story about what the gingerbread boy/girl did and to send those items
back to the child. Each child sent their gingerbread boy/girl to someone that they knew from far away and we waited for them to return.
The kids loved hearing about all of the interesting places that the gingerbread people had visited. We marked each location on the U.S. map.
***Be sure to send these items out early if you want them back for the December holidays.
