"Pledge"
By Linda

Clip to ScrapBook
I took down our "Pledge to Obey the Rules" chart and threw together the following on the overhead....

I will demonstrate effort today in creating a classroom of democracy. I will show empathy, self-discipline, initiative,
and responsibility because it's the right thing to do. I WILL BE WORM WORTHY!

The kids took turns leading it--they felt VERY honored and important. Of course, the vocab. had to be taught and reinforced daily, but that went with the whole system of levels. It was fun during the day to remind the kids of being "worm worthy" and the kids knew right away what that meant (altho it didn't

always mean they would be getting gummy worms all the time, which would be falling back into bribery).

This "pledge" will probably be changed in some way because it was a last minute thing...if you have any ideas, let me know! It might be a good writing project for the kids to work on as they learn more about the expected behaviors :-)
