HI! Have you heard of Step Up To Writing? That is the writing program we use at our school in Oregon. I have seen kids who were not able to write an understandable paragraph learn to write beautiful essays. The basic idea is teaching organization for writing, Topic SEntence, Fact, Fact, Fact, Conclusion. I start my 3rd graders just orgainzing paragraphs I've written, then have them start on colored paper. It really helps those students who tend to go from one topic to another. By the time students get into the 4th Grade (I have a 3/4 split) they usually are superb writers.let me know if you want any more information. michele
