I'm in Australia and we just take 'em! I teach Year One (5-6 yr olds) and there's too much other learning stuff to do! We usually have one day before the term ends to dress out of school uniform- in our own clothes- and sometimes have a sausage sizzle. But we're still doing work in class. We clean up and scrub our desks! Fun. Before our 5 week break-up before Christmas, of course we put on a special school performance to the community. Thank goodness there's no huge school issue with this here! Hope you get some ideas!
