homework By Jo

I make a grid checklist each Monday for each subject or class I teach. At the top I put the assignment and at night I put a little checkmark by each name that has turned it in. I can quickly tell the ones I am missing and check them in a different color for different days--like red one day late, green two days, purple more than 2. If I get a chance to check it that night, I record the score if not, I know who has one missing in the morning and I record them when I can. Sometimes I just record the check as a completed assignment and never record a score. I hope this helps. I have tried a million different | | ways in my 20 years of teaching, but this one is the one that works best for me. I also assign each child a number alphabetically and they turn their papers in in number order. I can at a quick glance see what numbers are missing too. I record late papers on the board by number not name. That allows the child some dignity. Other kids in the class can figure out pretty quickly who are certain numbers, but visitors, parents, people passing in the hall have no idea. It does work and just takes a short time for the kids to get used to doing. It saves me about a 1/2 an hour a night in recording homework when I don't have to search for each name, but just go down the list. Hope these help. If you have questions, email me.
