Clip to ScrapBook
I always start the year off with the novel Fourth Grade Rats, by Jerry Spinelli. It is the story of a boy dealing with growing up and learning how to be his own person. In the book it refers to the rhyme 1st grade babies, 2nd grade cats, 3rd grade angels, 4th grade rats. The main character is not sure if he is ready to leave angelhood behind to become a rat. I really like it, and my kids do, too!
