reading homework

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Kandra. I have been teaching for 23 years and just finished training in a program called Literacy Collaborative out of Lesley College in Massachusetts. In that program, the kids have books that they choose for silent reading
and reading at home that are called their "Just Right" books. We encouraged them to read a variety of genres and to keep track of that, the authors they read, they number of pp.,etc. in a reading log. Aside from that, the program had us teaching reading skills through Guided Reading, and Literacy through Literature Circles. Altogether, I think the students read more, and responded
more in this program than any other I've done. I only had one child who couldn't handle it. She was a special needs student who became confused about what story we were talking about, so we had her reading only one book at a time. Most kids can handle this though.
Good luck, and have fun this year.
