grading policy By Julia

WOW! you hit the nail on the head. I just completed my first year of teaching and I thought it was just me that had this problem. here is what I did...my clip board and I became very close friends. You see I made up a grade| sheet for every student. I could cater the grades to each childs individual needs that way. Each sheet had the subject areas and nine spaces (9 weeks) below. On fridays, I would go around and give individual grades while students were in groups. That way I could assess them individually and base it upon their potential. Some students had a section for "strategies" grades (how well they | | applied the strategies they were learning) All had reading, writing and math. It seemed to work well because of the dynamics of having so many ability levels in one room. I am looking forward to tweeking my system this year. this system works well with center based learning.
