multiplication facts
By Jo

Clip to ScrapBook
Did you know that you only have to teach the 2,4,5,6, and 9's and then 3x3,3x7,3x8,7x7,7x8. 1.You teach 2's as doubles
2.Next teach the 5's
3.Then the 4's are double 2's 4x2 is double 2's doubled again 2+2=4 4+4=8 which is 2x4
4. 6's are 5's +1 6x8= 8x5+6
7x6= 7x5+6
5. 9's--use the tricks you use--the fingers, the addition, etc.
I learned this in a workshop last Spring. I fully intend to use it with my 5th graders that are still struggling with facts. It seems so reasonable and so much easier than dwelling on the fact families forever. Try it if you can use it.
