I think that getting input from the following grade level is an excellent way to self assess your year. You should talk to the teachers within your system to get a really good outlook on what they need from the students. Right now you are talking to teaching in the next grade level- try to have the same conversation with the second grade teachers about your needs. After talking with our upper grade teachers, we designed a list of expectations that the students must be ready for to go to 5th grade. This will make the lessons "real" for our students. Communication is a great tool teachers don't use enough.
