I always had some of my former students coming to me during their lunch time asking me if they could help me with anything (because they didn't want to go outside to play) I was originally giving them little jobs to do for me but then I thought of a wonderful way to use them. I have them circulate through the room and answer any questions my kids have while they are completing assignments.
I was talking to one of the 6th grade teachers in my building (I teach 4th) and we have decided to work together this coming school to do a reading buddy type of program. I'll let you know how it goes, but I'm expecting good things from it.
