pdf stands for portable document file. The most common are the ones created with acrobat reader as far as I know. I do not believe you can create a pdf using regular word programs, you would require another program to do this. Likewise to read most pdf files you need to have the Acrobat Reader downloaded to your computer.I did a search on pdf and there were quite a few sites on the subject including several with information on MAC computers. As far as sharing information with others - with most word programs you can save it as an earlier version which would be compatible with most computers.
