Reason for a B
By Amie

Clip to ScrapBook
The reason I assign a B to students who simply meet the requirement is that I view a B as a "doing exactly what you're supposed to" grade. An A is a "doing what you're supposed to really well" grade or a "doing more than is required" grade. A C is an "almost doing what you're supposed to" grade or a "nearly there" grade.

I explain these difference to students and parents at the beginning of the year, and they are usually comfortable with them. Grade inflation is always a concern in schools, and I think this helps me stay "on track."
