Well, it IS part of your job to try to get them there!!! I had nonreaders in my class of fourth graders this year. I expected the same high standards from them as I did the rest of my students. You have to work at it. Find ways to reach them. Do research, etc. Teaching is not an easy job and all the answers do not come on a silver platter!
