My favorite to read to the kids is "Mandy" by Julie Edwards (AKA Julie Andrews.) It is about a little girl in an orphaqnage who finds a secret cottage and fixes it up herself. It was my favorite when I was a child. The it went out of print and now it is back in circulation. My classes have loved it - even the boys. i guess everyone longs for their own secret place.
