Not sure if this will help but...
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
A system I use with my younger students from a program our school bought is to actually write out words in a long format for a student to sound out. Then once they get the grasp of sounding out - you'd quit writing out the words and just have them try sounding out the words by thinking through the sounds. For example.

The word fan

You'd write it out

fffffffffffffaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

As you draw your finger under the word, you say the sounds and just natural change when the new letter and sound began. This is helpful for students who try to sound out by making each sound and not really blending them together.
