Your right! The first months are very different. Expect six weeks of ajustment. They will be getting use to the schedule and each other. As the daily routines fall in place for them, the rest of the year is a breeze. I don't
know if getting the parents or the students are hardest to adjust (smile). Make sure you get the names and addresses before school starts and send each child a welcome letter. This works well for parents and students. I also send them a pencil and something that goes along with our first day theme. This year I'll send shape name tags and coloring pages to share with the class. We'll
compare shapes and colors.Taking a tour of the school is anohter ice breaker. Going over the rules, Practice walking in a line, circle time songs, line up song, clean-up song ext. The first week is very relaxed yet when you feel you have their attention, drop in the lessons (ABC's, 123, Up & down) right away. This is your time to find out who your little people are. Write down something about each child. This will help you when talking to parents and grouping children during some lesson times. Good luck!
