In my school we have switched teachers for Math,Social Studies,and Science in past years, but this year we are changing Social Studies for Reading. Each of these classes are 50 minutes daily. Here was my schedule last year:
8:00-8:40
Morning work and Spelling (we don't actually start until 8:25 officially, but most kids are there by 8:10)
8:40-10:45 3 switchings of math, soc.st. and sci.
10:45-12:00 Specials
12:00-12:25 Lunch
12:25-12:30 restroom
12:30-1:15 Language Arts
1:15-1:40 recess and bathroom breaks
1:45-2:10 Band/study time
2:10-3:00 Language Arts continued
Mine were

allowed to use the restroom ONE at at time during study times and after the lessons had been assigned. I told you our 3 switches were 50 minutes, but that is next year. Last year they were 40 and it was not enough time.
You have to be pretty flexible with your schedule or it will drive you crazy. Fix one and then adjust to what works. I have taught 5th grade for 17 years and no year is ever exactly the same as the last--thank goodness!
