online translators By Julianne

I have also tried the online translators. They can be useful, but be careful about translating long passages. My partner and I translated a couple of paragraphs into Spanish, then managed to find one of our Spanish speaking| colleagues and had her read through the translation. It was far from what we intended! I now use them for words and short phrases rather than whole documents. Fortunately, we have district translators who will do notes home for us. We even can request a translator to be in our classroom for a conference. Unfortunately, it's not immediate. That's where the problem lies - something | | happens in your classroom (a kid gets a goose egg on his head while playing tag, for instance) - now you want to tell the parent what happened and how you handled it. No such luck. Or a parent comes in and needs to tell you something about their child who is sick, hurt, frightened, etc. I can get a translator, but not immediately. I wish there was an easy answer to this problem, but I fear it is one of those trials of working where I do. We're getting really good at hand signals and two word phrases, though!
