excited and ready to start school
By Kay

Clip to ScrapBook
I know you are excited and ready to start school. I hope you get a great group of students. If you are like most of us, you will have first day jitters like you have never had before.. Just remember, those first few days,
it takes twice as long to do everything. The first day will be over before you know it. I spend that day teaching the rules and procedures because they have to be modeled over and over. We also take a tour of the school, we pretend to go through the lunch line and we find where we will sit everyday. (Lunch will take forever this time) then we go out to the bus lot and we all get to find
our bus and get on. That takes a while. We go through the bus line up twice and the rules before we leave.(Mine can't find their bus even after this, for at least a week or two). WE visit the bathrooms, by then it is time for PE. Then Lunch, then the day is nearly gone. You have time left for a fun story time, unpack you supplies and get organized and playground time. I usually try to squeeze in a fun art activity, to go with the story we read that afternoon. Before we leave for the day we talk about somethings we learned and I tell them how proud I am of them because they really did their best today. Then we line up and cross your fingers..... maybe I will get them all on the right bus!!!!!!!!!!
Oh,, you may want to include a practice fire drill procedure and explain that a little. I always practice that and warn them that it will be CRAZY, people will be EVERYWHERE. They learn to hold hands with a buddy and if they get seperated from the group to meet at our spot. Be prepared if a firedrill happens when the kids are in the bathroom make sure they know what to do.
