Worth the cost?
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
Jeanne,

I have that same question in mind. I have the set of 5 I ordered, and I've looked them over with a critical eye. They do appear to be sturdy, and I like the idea of every student starting the year with an extra
special notebook for reading. I love the way they have a card stock page to divide the sections and each section has a tabbed title. I also love all the information included at the beginning of each of the four sections so that students have all the info all there in their notebooks. However, like you, I am still wrestling with the issue of cost -- something like $5.00 per student.

So here's my question for you, Jeanne. You say you've used spirals that seemed to work fine. Do you prepare info pages (like the ones provided in the Heinemann notebook) and have student glue them in? I've always used the 2-pocket notebooks with tangs/prongs (or whatever in the world they are called!), and we could add or subtract pages very easily. I'd have to say that worked well for me in the past, but I'd have to preapare all those info sheets, some kind of special dividers for each section, and put on tabs for them to have everything ready how I really want them to be this time. I'm wondering, which is more important at this point, time or money????????

Wondering as usual,
Elaine
