Take old puzzles and paint them and put addition, or subtraction facts on them or prefix, suffix words on them, etc. Put a big white sheet of paper on wall and draw black lines on it like a puzzle and have the children write their names in each one, then when they do good work, behavior, | | etc. they could add a star or maybe even a puzzle piece. When they got so many, then they'd get extra computer time, or free time, or something special. Around your door you could put up a big sign "For A Puzzling Good Year in __th grade" then all around it have cut out paper in the shape of puzzles with skills they'll learn during the year. These are all primary things and I'm sorry I don't know what grade you teach. Maybe this will strike a spark and make you think of lots of creative ideas.
