Balanced Approach in Math
By JS

Clip to ScrapBook
I think the key is balance. Where I agree that students are benefited by a more abstract approach because they are forced to think critically, they also need the more traditional method. They simply need a little of both. Begin with an investigation, but then, teach the rule. Have them learn problem solving strategies.........drawing charts, guess and check, etc. but then do some simple problem solving without the manipuaitves, etc.
