guided reading
By MJH

Clip to ScrapBook
I begin small groups in September. My lessons start out with rereading a previous book or chart of the students choice. I then move to letter or word review depending on the level of the group. Next I introduce the new skill or concept and the new book or chart. Some of the students are not ready for books until much later so I use charts with poems and rhymes. The students have time to practice reading what they have learned and then they retell the story in a variety of ways. A good book to read about guided reading is "Guided Reading" by Fountas & Pinnell. Hope you find this helpful.
