High Students in First Grade
By Amanda K.

Clip to ScrapBook
In the primary grades, we do reading groups. In my classroom, these are ability based (although the kids can move from group to group as ability increases past their group peers). My two highest groups I have working on
things that are past their grade level. For example, I purchased the Spectrum series reading comprehension book for second grade and worked through that with them, as well as the second grade grammar book, also from the Spectrum series. These kids were also in Accelerated Reader, in which they were choosing books to read at their own independent levels.

In math, I used the "challenge"

worksheets for each lesson to give to the students who already understood the concept very well and didn't need the repetition of more than a few problems using their regular books. These came with our math series.
