lining up
By Julianne

Clip to ScrapBook
I have first graders. One way I've used to ensure that they line up quickly is to reward the first few students in line. As they walk past me I hand them a sticker or some other tiny treat. I don't announce that I'm going to do this, I just show up with treats once in a while. Of course, you still have to occasionally give a consequence to the ones that habitually lag behind. I tell them that if they can't be in line on time then I can't trust them to be out at recess. So sorry, they'll have to miss a recess to make up the time they've wasted. In first grade that's a really BIG punishment.
