Educational changes

I think education is on a conservative swing at this point. Partially has to do with the political climate, Sept. 11 certainly didn't help. While the ideal would be to support each child's individual interests, talents,
and growth, we (some in the ed. community) seem to be embracing some very interesting practices and materials to achieve this...more districts going for a 'standardized curriculum', more scripted programs, a call for less theory and more content in the teacher's education programs...all these things add up to a bland, middle of the road stance where we teach to the average of the class.
There is NO way to facilitate life long learners with this agenda. Fortunately, not everyone's following...
