Journals for adults are free time for expressing out thoughts. IT's not a structured activity or something we are made or told to do. Journal writing with preschool children should be children drawing pictures. If the child| chooses to share the journal picture that day with a teacher, then the teacher may write down the child's thoughts in the journal as well. It's a private, reflective activity that allows the child to express her feelings/thoughts, in an appropriate way. The only assessment that comes with the activity is when a child communicates something to the teacher. If the communication signals | | a stress, worry, or fear, or even a happy thought, feeling, etc. the teacher can respond with the appropriate actions/words and plan additional experiences to help the child deal with her anxieties, feelings, etc.
