TERC Math
By Jeanne

Clip to ScrapBook
I hope this isn't too late to put my two cents in. I am a 4th grade teacher and I've been using TERC for 5 years and I really like it. The first year another 4th grade teacher and I just decided to try it out so we jumped
in feet first. I found the teacher manual to be user friendly, but there is a lot of reading. The last two years it has been a school dwide program which does make it easier. I also found that I do supplement with other things at times especially with computation. I find that my students develop very good number sense and they are able to take numbers apart and compute mentally.
There are two books that you might be interested in to help you with an understanding of constructivist mathematics. One is called Making Sense and it is published by Heinemann and the other is called Beyond Arithmetic and I believe it is by the TERC people. Also look at your standards and curriculum to see which units fit. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me.
